#DidYouKnow that some cultures celebrate the start of the New Year after January 1st? To be specific, certain Asian countries celebrate the Lunar New Year also known as Spring Festival for 15 days. Learning that led me to question why it’s so normalized to celebrate the beginning of a new year on January 1st anyway. Is that the start of the calendar year? Who says? Why is it in the middle of winter -_- so many questions.
Although the start of a new year gets a lot of hype, I’ve really never felt that buzz that is often associated with a new year. I mentioned it in a previous blog post, but things just seem so bleak and nature is still very much dormant. Daylight hours are still limited, trees are very bare, nights are cold, frigid, and still… yet that is supposed to be when I should wake up at 5 am every morning, revamp my lifestyle routine and become a new me? Nope.
For me, it’s really around March usually when I start to become acclimated to a new year or even feel ready to start to embark on changes for myself. It’s within the rebirth that I notice in nature. Seeing the robin for the first time, noticing the sun is setting a bit later, or noticing tiny buds growing on the tree branches.
Copying a screenshot of one of my fav Twitter pages @SoledadFrancis who beautifully summarizes my thoughts on the start of spring.
Life is reborn in March – or that’s just how I feel about it. That is when I feel renewed and ready to begin planting my seeds of new beginnings and changes in my life.
And it isn’t a coincidence that this is the time I finally get around to creating a vision board or writing my manifestations down.
Planting the seeds
So why plant the seed(s)? It’s really a play on words, but also a very practical suggestion. Depending on what you plant, March/April marks the beginning of your garden season. Preparing the soil and making it a nurturing ground to finally plant what you wish to see come to fruition one day. I spoke about how many consistencies I’ve noticed in my life and my gardening journey in my podcast here, but there was something so humbling about that experience.
All of this to say, it’s spring and it’s time to start prepping your soil, planting the seeds of changes that you wish for yourself this year and beyond. Enjoy the process and be patient during its unfolding.
Happy Spring!
